Tropico 4 reddit12/7/2023 Thank you for your time reading up to this point, and maybe even replying. What I'm missing in the 6 are better graphical performances (I have a good machine, and the game shouldn't use that much GPU power, which smells like poor optimization to me), better "El Presidente" customizations/traits, Tropiceans being more expressive (and why not rebellious) in their thoughts, but most importantly a good campaign (and not that mish/mash of DLC missions we got). Finally, the UI is just so much more convenient : unlike the 4, farms have obvious delimiters, I can easily spot bottlenecks when zooming out, better filters for resources, a better almanac, etc. I also like the pirates feature, bringing in new citizens or blueprints when I need them. While I do acknowledge that the latest iteration of the game is too easy (at least in sandbox), I thought it introduced some *really* good gameplay upgrades, especially regarding the trading. I can understand and respect that range of tastes are wide and varied among players. Now I still would like to understand what some people seem to prefer in Tropico 4 over the 6. At least I don't have to deal with those in Tropico 6. I hate random events that the player has no agency over with burning passion. What eventually made me uninstall the game was a tornado that hit my main town, with all of its housing that I painfully had spent hours building. My impression after playing it for a decent time was that Tropico 4 also becomes "easy" once you manage to set up a couple of industries, especially wood logging (and ignore the terrible advice the game provides about "recommended buildings", or the weird/impossible missions asking you trade chemicals right at the start of the game, for example). I finally made up mind to almost always use "quick build" once I got the cash flow coming in. I felt my builders were useless since they appeared to be constantly busy, even when I set my build order to "urgent" (and yes, I know about "needs", and having to build a proper transportation network). Unfortunately I found it even less appealing than the 6, since it's much too slow to my taste. So I thought I'd give Tropico 4 a try, since people here keep praising it. On the other hand, I also found it discouragingly easy even on higher difficulty settings once I got my transportation network up and running : no rebellions, no real antagonisms with external powers and finally no real background campaign/story that kept me going like in Tropico 3 (which is still my favourite iteration to this day). I've been playing Tropico 6 recently, and on the bright side I enjoyed it quite a lot.
